Question: Is it Wakazashi, Wakizashi or even Wagazashi?
Answer: Although Cold Steel use the term Wakazashi, it seems the more popular term is WakIzashi.
Maybe the Japanese Samurai didn’t bother too much about the spelling, back in the day!
The Wakizashi was a short sword, worn alongside the longer Katana by the Samurai. Around the 24 to 28 inch mark, with the blade around 18 inches, the Wakizashi is often highly decorated. The Katana was often surrendered by the swordsman when entering a public place as a sign of respect, but the Wazikashi was always worn, ready for action, and even accompanied the warrior when sleeping, ready for use at a moment’s notice.
Our site shows the range of these swords produced by Cold Steel and other makers that is available on eBay, and covers all spellings. Our store pages also link to Katana and other swords for sale.
Our YouTube videos at the foot of this page are supposed to be about Japanese Swords, but some seem a little off subject. Just move on to the next one.
